Crowfoot Hockey awarded Association of the Year

Crowfoot Hockey was recognized by Hockey Calgary as Association of the Year.

Thanks to our Directors who have provided active representation on sub-committees and demonstrated a willingness to work cooperatively with Hockey Calgary regarding its initiatives, programs and strategies.  We appreciate your leadership and contribution.

Our membership embraced our April 2018 Humboldt Fundraiser, just one of many examples on how we give back to the community.

We recognize all our terrific volunteers at all levels:  Parents, Coaches, Managers, Coordinators and our Board of Directors in making our Association the best within Calgary.

From Hockey Calgary – Association of the Year – Crowfoot:

This year’s Association of the year is one of Hockey Calgary’s oldest and historic organizations, and they continue to improve and optimize their programs for their membership. They are strong supporters Hockey Calgary initiatives and offerings and continue to focus on their own internal programs for the betterment of their players, coaches, and members.

This year one of the major focuses for the Crowfoot Association was evaluating and improving their coach and player development. Crowfoot introduced a series of “Coach Mentor Nights” available to all coaches. The mentor nights were designed to develop their coaches through both through skill development, learning, and idea sharing. With high attendance and uptake, coaches were put through the paces as they learned first hand not only how to explain but also how to execute various skills and drills. With the learnings and success of the “Coach Mentor Nights,” Crowfoot has designed and will be rolling out a more robust coach and player development plan for the following season that will incorporate age appropriate development for coaches and players using a variety of techniques.

In addition to coach development initiatives, Crowfoot invested in a multisport player development pilot project geared to develop their athletes and individual team cohesion in an off-ice environment. Partnering with Hockey Calgary and the Calgary Kangaroos, Crowfoot introduced the sport of Aussie Football, commonly referred to as “Footy,” to all of their Peewee teams. With the new “Change it Up” campaign lead by a number of National governing bodies, Crowfoot has been a leader in providing their members with multisport options.

In addition to their advancements in coach and player development, Crowfoot also had achievements on the ice:

  • Crowfoot earned 1 Esso Minor Hockey Week Championship Banner;
  • And 1 Subway City Championship title
  • The Crowfoot organization earned 2 Provincial bids and returned with a 3rd place finish and an 8th place finish

Congratulations to the Crowfoot Minor Hockey Association as the Association of the year!
